She has received distinguished research awards from the European Geosciences Union, the American Geophysical Union, the Geological Society of American and the American Association of Geographers. She is a fellow of the American Geophysical Union, author of numerous books on rivers, wood, ecosystems and mountain landscapes written for scientific and popular audiences and over 250 papers published in peer-reviewed journals, a Distinguished University Professor at Colorado State University, and a highly sought after speaker.
